அலுவலகத்துக்கு வந்ததும் வராததுமாகவே ரவியையும், அகிலாவையும் அழைத்த ரகு, ‘‘இங்க வாங்க, பாடத்தை நேற்று விட்டதிலிருந்து தொடர்வோம். பொதுவாக இரண்டுக்கு மேற்பட்ட சிங்குலர் சப்ஜக்ட்ஸ், ‘அண்ட்’ என்ற சொல்லால் இணைக்கப்படும்போது அதனுடைய வினைச்சொல் பன்மையாகத்தான் இருக்கும். (When two or more Singular subjects joined by and usually take a PLURAL VERB.) e.g., Ram and Shyam are friends. Geetha and Seetha work hard. 
அதேசமயம், இரண்டு சப்ஜக்ட்ஸும் ஒரே கருத்தைத்தான் வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றன என்றால், வினைச்சொல் ஒருமையாகத்தான் வரும். (But if two Nouns suggests only one idea or refer to the same person or thing, the verb must be Singular.) e.g., Slow and steady wins the race. Bread and butter is his breakfast. Slow, steady என்ற வார்த்தைகள் தனித்தனியாகப் பார்த்தால் வெவ்வேறு பொருள் தரும். ஆனால், இந்த வாக்கியத்தில் slow and steady என்ற phrase ‘நிதானம்’ என்ற பொருளைத் தரும். Bread, butter என்ற வார்த்தைகள் தனித்தனியாகப் பார்த்தால் வெவ்வேறு பொருள் தரும். ஆனால், இந்த வாக்கியத்தில் bread and butter என்ற phrase ‘slices of bread that have been spread with butter’ என்ற பொருளைத் தரும். அதுமட்டுமல்ல bread and butter என்றால் a person or company’s main source of income என்று அர்த்தம்.
The cashier and Accountant என்று வந்திருப்பதால் cashier மற்றும் Accountant இரு பணிகளைச் செய்பவர் ஒருவரே ஆகும். எனவே, இங்கு is என்ற சிங்குலர் வேர்ப் வந்துள்ளது. மாறாக the cashier and the Accountant என்று வந்திருந்தால், நன்றாகக் கவனியுங்கள். Accountantக்கு முன்னால் the என்ற article வந்திருந்தால் கேஷியர் வேறு. அக்கௌன்டன்ட் வேறு. அதனால் The cashier and the accountant are here என்றுதான் வரும்.
எனவே, and வந்தாலே pluralதான் என்று எண்ணக்கூடாது. மேலும் பல உதாரணங்களைப் பார்க்கலாம். Time and Tide waits for none. Micro biology is part and parcel of Bilology. சரி! டீ சாப்பிடப் போவோமா?’’ என்று எழுந்தார் ரகு.
